The Saga of the AV pot:  I started out making the pots from low-fired whiteware, using low-fired glazes.  I don’t really like working with the low-fired glazes, so the second generation of pots was made with Standard’s Brooklyn Red clay for the outer pot, using my normal glazes from Coyote Clay.  Unfortunately, I found that the terra-cotta low-fired clay wasn’t as porous as the low-fired white clay at bisque temperatures, so the inner pots didn’t “draw” the water as well.  In addition, in terms of aesthetics, the color of the inner pot didn’t match the outer pot.

SO... for the latest generation of AV pots, I’m using a white mid-range stoneware for the outer pot, again, with my usual Coyote Clay glazes.  The inner pot is made from the low-fired whiteware, with a low-fire Caramel glaze that “goes” well with the Red Gold.  I sacrifice some of the “earthiness” of the dark clay (isn’t it wild how different the Red Gold glaze looks on the two different clays?) but I gain a good deal in terms of functionality.
